Mission Statement and Vision

Mission Statement

The South Asian Public Affairs Council is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization devoted to preserving the South Asian culture by promoting education, health, cultural Awareness, youth development, economic development, and Policy initiatives within Australia.  SAPAC works to monitor and nurture democratic systems by promoting social justice, human rights and equality on behalf Australia’s South Asian community. SAPAC’s focus is to unite all South Asian Organizations by serving as the Umbrella Organization to increase communication and collaboration amongst each other through the SAPAC network.  SAPAC will act as a social tie for the South Asian community to the Australian population, in order to further its initiatives.
Vision

South Asian Public Affairs Council will be the South Asian Umbrella Organization that will be a credible point of contact for all political leaders, civil society groups, educators, etc., interested in connecting with the general South Asian Community, its leaders, professional organizations, or specific cultures, or regions represented within the South Asian community at-large.

Objectives

To monitor democratic processes and systems within Australia that may have an effect on the South Asian Community in Australia;
To nurture a South Asian culture through educational, cultural and literary programs and events within the Australian community;
To communicate democratic values in the region of social tolerance, freedom of expression, justice, fairness and equity to a broader Australian, South Asian and global audience through the modern channels of communication;
To be a resource for South Asians living, migrating, studying, or visiting Australia;
To enhance and assist the integration of South Asian people into mainstream Australian society.
Organizational Functions

To develop political leadership skills among men and women through training programs and events;
To empower people in urban and rural areas for effective participation in political process in the region through supporting, debating and communicating democratic values;
To identify government and nongovernment policies and activities which hinder political process in Australia;
To collect data and develop educational materials and communicate them to Australian leaders and audiences;
To monitor legislative developments for protecting gender equality, religious and ethnic minorities and the under-privileged segments of the society at large;
To communicate and interact with Australian policy makers, think thanks, policy institutes and media outlets in promoting SAPAC mission and objectives.
